Terry, Lampard and Crouch likely out for England

John Terry and Frank Lampard will miss England's European Championship qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland, as coach Fabio Capello saw injuries affect several of his players. Lampard was replaced in the second-half of Chelsea's 2-0 win over Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, and he will have surgery during the week. "It is a very easy surgery but he has started to feel pain and he needs to have the operation. We have already spoken with the national team to explain the situation," said Carlo Ancelotti, the Chelsea manager. Chelsea said after the match that John Terry has an hamstring injury and will be unavailable for his country. Peter Crouch suffered a rib injury during Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 home loss to Wigan Athletic and is a doubt. Capello, the England coach, is expected to name his squad on Sunday evening. Terry, Lampard and Crouch are all players Capello would be certain to have picked. He is also waiting to find out if Jermaine Defoe will be fit. He is due to have surgery on a groin problem on Tuesday, but his Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has suggested he may now not need the operation. Capello is also without captain Rio Ferdinand, who is still absent due to the knee injury he suffered during an England training session ahead of the World Cup finals.
