SWP wants to say at Man City

Shaun Wright-Phillips has said he will fight for a first-team place at Manchester City, despite squad competition at Eastlands being even stronger than that he faced at Chelsea. Wright-Phillips' move back north from Stamford Bridge in 2008 was supposed to bring him more regular football, but it was followed by a two-year spending binge following the takeover of Sheikh Mansour. Roberto Mancini, the City boss, has continued strengthening this summer - spending more than £120million on players, with James Milner and Mario Balotelli direct competition for Wright-Phillips. It is all a bit of deja vu for the England winger, who was a big name signing for Chelsea as they spent after being bought by Roman Abramovich - then found he could not get into the team. Despite the possibility of being left out of City's 25-man final Premier League squad at the end of the month, Wright-Phillips does not want to leave in order to seek a more regular first-team spot. "I don't believe in quitting. I have always wanted to stay and there's no reason to go. The club want me to stay, too, and the challenge for me now is to help City achieve the goals they want to achieve," he said. "I don't think about being on the bench, I think about playing my part even if it does mean coming on to clear one off the line. "I'm excited about all the players coming in. We learn from each other, there is great banter and great team spirit.  We all give something different to the team and there will be times when we are all needed in different parts of the game."
