Sutter relishing competitive Switzerland debut

Scott Sutter is hoping there are 12 English-born players on the pitch when Switzerland host England in a European Championship qualifier in Basle on Tuesday night. Sutter, 24, was born in London, is a Tottenham Hotspur supporter and speaks with an English accent - but is in line to make his competitive senior debut for Switzerland. He spent time with Millwall, Barnet, Aston Villa and Charlton Athletic before moving to Grasshopper in 2003, and has spent his entire senior career in the Swiss league. He is eligible for Switzerland due to his Swiss father, and represented them at youth level. He was initially reluctant to play for them at senior level, but now seems himself as much Swiss as English. "In Switzerland people genuinely don't care if the players are half English, Italian, Turkish or anything else as long as the team are winning," he said. "I wouldn't have a big problem with Arteta playing for England but I can see it's different for England than it is for Switzerland. "You have to remember most of the Swiss players either grew up in the country, were coached from an early age in the country or have Swiss family."
