Steve Bruce has admitted he still harbours ambitions of one day managing England despite being unveiled as Aston Villa boss earlier this month.
The 55-year-old's decision to take over at Villa Park effectively ruled him out of the running to become the permanent successor to Sam Allardyce.
But Bruce has never made any secret of his desire to manage his country and says any future opportunity would be too hard to turn down.
Bruce told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek: "If you're English and there's anything about you then of course to manage the national team has got to be the pinnacle of anybody's career.
"You've got to pinch yourself and think, 'how lucky am I?' because it is a privileged position and the biggest job to have is to manage your country whether it's football, cricket or rugby.
"So maybe in the future it might be there, but at the moment I'm just enjoying my time trying to turn this club around."
Current caretaker-boss Gareth Southgate remains the odds-on favourite to be handed the task of leading England to the 2018 World Cup.
But the FA have also been linked with the likes of Arsene Wenger and former Manchester City title winner Roberto Mancini.
