Stalemate stuns Terry

England captain John Terry admitted after Saturday's goalless draw with FYR Macedonia that he was sure Steve McClaren's side would eventually break the deadlock.

However, England failed to make the breakthrough against their dogged visitors as they produced their poorest display under McClaren.

Terry admitted it had been a frustrating game as England's Euro 2008 aspirations took a battering at Old Trafford.

The Chelsea defender said after the stalemate: "Sometimes it just doesn't happen.

"I felt the opportunity was going to come - sometimes it goes in like it has recently - but it didn't this evening.

"You can see the frustration in the lads with they way they were bombing forward at the end, trying to make it happen."

England now face a tricky game against Croatia, who thrashed Andorra 7-0 on Saturday, in Zagreb on Wednesday.
