Shaw out to impress
Luke Shaw is out to impress Roy Hodgson this week as he looks to book his place on the plane to Brazil.
Shaw only made his league debut last year for Southampton, but he looks set to earn his first England cap on Wednesday night against Denmark.
Given that this is the last time England play before Hodgson selects his World Cup squad, the defender knows he has to make an impression this week if he is to make the cut for Brazil.
"If you get a chance you have to give everything and try and impress the manager," Shaw told The FA's website.
"Hopefully I can do it this week."
Shaw has played so well this year that he has been linked with a big-money move to Chelsea.
The man he could replace - Ashley Cole - currently stands in front of him in the England pecking order, but the 106-cap man is by no means sure of going to the World Cup.
Everton's Leighton Baines is another experienced player who is enjoying a good season so Shaw knows he has plenty of competition.
The teenager does not see that as a disadvantage though.
"The competition spurs me on," Shaw added.
"Obviously to have competition like that is amazing for me and I am only going to thrive off it.
"If I keep working hard in training and obviously play well for my club hopefully I might be able to get a chance and then who knows what might happen."
He added: "I was quite nervous coming here first because they are all massive names and a few years ago I was watching some of them on the telly so to be talking and playing with them is great.
"The experience has been very good so far, we had the first training session on Monday. It was only a recovery session but I joined in, we did a little possession drill and that helped my confidence."
