Schweinsteiger doubt for Germany

Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is a major injury doubt for Sunday's World Cup second round tie with England. The Bayern Munich player limped out of Wednesday's final group game against Ghana with a thigh problem. He was replaced in the 81st minute of the 1-0 win which confirmed Germany's passage to the second round, where they will face the Three Lions, as Group B winners. He was replaced by Toni Kroos and is now struggling to be fit for Sunday. "He has sustained a thigh injury," said assistant coach Hansi Flick. "The doctors say time is running out but we hope he can play because he is an important player."   Manchester City defender Jerome Boateng also has a calf problem which led to his substitution in the 73rd minute of the same match.
