England manager Roy Hodgson has admitted he didn't ask Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes if he would like to be considered for Euro 2012.

Scholes, 37 retired from international football after the European Championships in 2004 which was hosted by Portugal and he initially called time on his entire playing career twelve months ago until he was talked into a return to the big stage and returned in January this year.

"I didn't speak to Paul Scholes," said Hodgson. "Although I am a great admirer of him, he is coming to the end of his career. "I wouldn't have wanted to run the risk of a rebuff because I'm not certain he would want to juggle Manchester United and England again."
