Ryan Bertrand convinced England do not lack cutting edge

England failed to "unlock the door" against Slovakia but Ryan Bertrand remains positive about their Euro 2016 chances.

Roy Hodgson's men attacked from the outset in St Etienne but a mixture of wayward finishing, resolute defending and inspired goalkeeping saw the match end 0-0.

That was enough to see England through to the last-16 but also allowed Wales to usurp them at the top of Group B, setting up a tie next Monday against either Portugal, Austria, Hungary or Iceland.

"It was frustrating not to get the win which I thought the performance deserved," left-back Bertrand said.

"They defended in numbers and were very resilient, and unfortunately we couldn't unlock the door.

"We remain very positive in our overall performance in this game and in previous games.

"Hopefully when we come up against teams in the next stages, they will hopefully come out some more and give us more space."

The display at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard also reaffirmed concerns about England's cutting edge, but the Southampton left-back does not see it like that.

"(It's) not really cutting edge," Bertrand added. "We were creating chances and really plugging away, and we remain very confident in our performance.

"It was only a matter of time before we would have got the goal."
