Rooney says sorry for fans criticism
Wayne Rooney has apologised to England fans after criticising their support during Saturday's goalless draw with Algeria in Cape Town. The point leaves the Three Lions needing to beat Slovenia on Wednesday to qualify for the second round of the World Cup, a draw or defeat would almost certainly see them eliminated. England were booed off after a poor performance where the team looked scared and attracted criticism from all quarters, Rooney's response was to criticise the fans who responded to the display with jeers. "I am as passionate about the England team as anyone. Last night, on reflection I said things in the heat of the moment that came out of frustration of both our performance and the result," he said "The most important thing now is to regroup be positive and work towards winning the game on Wednesday. To do this the players will need the support of the fans more than ever. "For my part I apologise for any offence caused by my actions at the end of the game."
