Rooney recovery continues

England star Wayne Rooney continues his recovery from a broken foot and was photographed on Monday attempting a scissor kick during the last training session before the squad flew to Germany. Rooney trained with Gary Neville and the England physios before flying from Luton Airport to the team's luxury hotel near Baden-Baden. The 20-year-old striker is expected to step up his training on Tuesday before flying back to Manchester for a scan on Wednesday. Rooney broke a metatarsal bone in Manchester United's defeat against Chelsea on April 29 and was told at the time that it would be six weeks before he could resume full training. England's first Group B game of the tournament against Paraguay on Saturday is exactly six weeks since Rooney suffered the injury. However, The Sun reports that Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson remains concerned that England will rush Rooney back in to action too soon. Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe travelled with the England party on Monday and is on standby should Rooney's scan show he is unlikely to be fit.
