Rooney to stay with England squad

Wayne Rooney will travel with the England squad to Switzerland, despite allegations about his private life in two Sunday newspapers. England will fly to Basle on Monday ahead of the European Championship qualifying game against the Swiss. Although Rooney was anonymous for England during their disappointing World Cup campaign, he was instrumental in Friday's 4-0 win over Bulgaria at Wembley - setting up all three of Jermaine Defoe's goals. The News Of The World and Sunday Mirror printed claims about his private life. He trained with his international teammates on Sunday morning, and the Football Association said there are no plans for him to leave the squad. Stories about members of the England team and their apparent lack of fidelity are not new, with it rarely seeing players dropped. One exception was John Terry losing the captaincy of the Three Lions last season after his affair with the former girlfriend of teammate Wayne Bridge became public knowledge.
