Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has expressed his appreciation to England boss Roy Hodgson for his faith in selecting him for Wednesday's friendly against Scotland.
Rooney missed Rio Ferdinand's testimonial at Old Trafford on Friday night and is yet to make an appearance in pre-season due to hamstring and shoulder complaints.
The 27-year-old has been picked for international duty by Hodgson, though, and took to his official Facebook page to thank the Three Lions boss.
"Can't wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland," he said.
"Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it."
Rooney's club situation looks certain to rumble into the opening weeks of the Barclays Premier League campaign, which for United opens at Swansea next Saturday evening.
New Red Devils boss David Moyes suffered defeat during his first home game in charge on Friday night as Sevilla recorded a 3-1 win.
There were highlights, most obviously in the performance of man of the match Adnan Januzaj. But, with just two wins in seven pre-season games ahead of Sunday's Community Shield encounter with Wigan, no new signings of note and Rooney's future unresolved, it is hardly the ideal scenario.
However, speaking before Friday night's game, Moyes insisted he had had a "brilliant" five weeks in charge since officially succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson and showed no sign of anxiety.
"Everybody who takes over at Manchester United has testing times," he said. "Even Sir Alex Ferguson had testing times. It is no different for David Moyes."
