England striker Wayne Rooney believes a victory over old foes Germany would be particularly sweet.
England and Germany meet for the first time since the 2010 World Cup, with Roy Hodgson's men bidding to show that they have come a long way since that 4-1 last 16 defeat in Bloemfontein. They will also be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Chile at Wembley on Friday night.
Rooney said: "It's nice to beat anyone, but especially the Germans. It's always nice when you beat them (German opposition).
"It's great when you beat the big teams. When we beat Brazil here (in February) it gave everybody a lift and to get the draw away at Brazil (in June) was a great result for us.
"It's important that we try to win the game but I think it's important we try to deliver what the manager wants from us on the pitch."
Put to Rooney that Germany, a side he has faced once in 87 caps, are a team England should aspire to be like, the Manchester United forward insisted his goals are higher.
"I'd rather be Spain, world champions and European champions," Rooney said.
"But they (Germany) are a great team with some good players and it will be a big test for us."
Rooney is full of admiration for Germany's players. Sir Alex Ferguson's autobiography recently detailed how Rooney asked for United to sign Mesut Ozil, who is now at Arsenal.
Ozil will be rested for Tuesday's game, but as Rooney concedes, the Arsenal midfielder is not the only dangerous player in Joachim Low's squad.

"He's a clever player," Rooney added.
"He doesn't stick to one position, he moves along the line, moves in behind the opposition and midfield and can score and assist goals.
"He's a fantastic player so it will be a test for us to deal with him.
"There's so many (good players). Thomas Muller works hard, scores goals, big goals as well.
"The biggest thing they've got is (that they are) a team. They all know their jobs and that's why they're so difficult to play against."
Rooney hopes England will show similar traits in the final international of 2013 as the World Cup draws near.
"We want to put the ideas of the manager into the game and sometimes you do a lot of it, sometimes if you are not fully focused or don't do it then you get punished," Rooney said.
"Against Chile we did some good things but they caught us by surprise with the way they played.
"That has gone now and we have to look forward to the game coming up on Tuesday.
"It will be a completely different game. It will be a game we're used to a bit more. The Germany game will be more similar to a Premier League game."
