Rio ruled out of Andorra clash

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old missed Saturday's 4-0 win in Kazakhstan but it had been hoped that he would have recovered from the calf injury that has bedevilled him for the last month in time for him to face Andorra.

Ferdinand has only been able to play in the Champions League Final defeat to Barcelona since the semi-final second leg win at Arsenal almost five weeks ago.

Matthew Upson partnered captain John Terry in Almaty while Gary Cahill was initially called up as cover for Ferdinand.

However, Fabio Capello has decided not to bring anyone in to replace the former Leeds and West Ham star for the Andorra game and, as Gareth Barry is suspended for the Wembley clash following his booking in Kazakhstan, the Italian goes into the match with only 21 players to choose from.
