Football.co.uk readers have spoken and you'd like to see Tottenham's Jermain Defoe partner Wayne Rooney up front at the 2010 World Cup.

In what was our closest poll yet, Defoe garnered 30.4% of your votes to edge out his team-mate Peter Crouch on 28.8%.

Michael Owen came third with 26.1%, with the 1998 World Cup hero put on the list before an injury in the Carling Cup final ended his season.

Emile Heskey, tha man in possession during England's qualifying campaign, pooled just 5.7% of the vote, with West Ham's Carlton Cole not far behind on 5.2%.

Some 3.7% of you voted 'other', perhaps suggesting Theo Walcott or Steven Gerrard should be deployed further forward - or maybe even backing Sunderland striker Darren Bent for the role.
