Polish FA offer ticket refund

The Polish Football Association (PZPN) has confirmed it will refund England fans' unused tickets for Wednesday evening's rescheduled World Cup qualification game against Poland.

The match in Warsaw between England and Poland was postponed on Tuesday night after heavy rain and an unclosed stadium roof caused a waterlogged pitch. England fans' spokesman Mark Perryman expects up to two thirds of the 2,500 supporters who travelled to the Polish capital to attend the rescheduled game on Wednesday afternoon.

However, fans have been urged to reprint their tickets and refunds will be available for those unable to attend, according to the PZPN's official website. A statement said: "The England fans who printed a ticket from the system www.kupbilet.pl (for Poland v England) are asked to re-print it."

The statement continued: "Customers who bought tickets from www.kupbilet.pl will be able to file a claim online. Any questions regarding claims should be directed by e-mail to reklamacje@pzpn.pl. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience over the cancellation of the match."

Poland were keen to reschedule the game for next month, however the game has been rescheduled for 1600BST on Wednesday after conditions improved, allowing the roof to be closed at midnight.

Perryman, from the London England Fans' group, still anticipates a good atmosphere in the rearranged fixture.

He said: "I expect there will be between half and two thirds of the England fans who travelled out for the game to be there this afternoon. A lot of fans I've spoken to have booked to come out on Monday and go back on Thursday anyway, while a lot have Polish relatives over here.

"But in any case it will not cost the fans a lot of money for the extra day because Poland is a cheap place to get to, to stay at and to eat in - maybe an extra £150.

"The feeling (last night) was not of anger but of bemusement and no-one knew what was going on but I include the Poland fans in that as well. It wasn't anything against the England fans.

"But can we have a sense of perspective after people have gone on about the roof not being closed? If there had been rain like that in England, there is not a single football stadium which has a roof to close."
