John Peacock, the England U17 coach, played down the importance of his side's victory over Portugal at Glanford Park - saying the four-team Linolnshire tournament won by his side was purely about development of players. Two goals from Hallam Hope, along with a Nick Powell strike, sealed a 3-1 win on Sunday. It was enough to win the tournament after a 2-2 draw with Turkey and 4-0 success over Australia. "I'm pleased to win the tournament, but the real objective this week has been to have a close look at the players," said Peacock. "We;ve rotated the squad around, to give us a clear indication of the strength in depth, and it's been very pleasing overall. "We kept possession well against Portugal, but we'll keep preaching to them when to play and look at the risks in safety.
I was disappointed there were a few unforced errors, but it's important to remember these are young lads who are still learning. "We've played some tough opposition and it's a great preparation for the Euro qualifiers. We've got a lot of important things out of it."
