Parker keeps fingers crossed over England call

Scott Parker has stated his hope of making Fabio Capello's World Cup squad, claiming he can be the man to step into Gareth Barry's boots.

Parker has been in exceptional form for West Ham this season and has tipped for a surprise surge into the England squad.

Gareth Barry looks set to miss out with an ankle injury sustained against Tottenham Hotspur, with Tom Huddlestone and Owen Hargreaves also in the mix to fill the void.

But Parker hopes he could yet force is way into Capello's plans yet, having had a fine season at Upton Park.

“It would be the ultimate way for me to finish the season if I was called into the England squad.

“It is every players dream to be involved at the World Cup. It is the pinnacle of your career.

“If you had asked me two weeks ago if I expected to be in the squad, I probably would have had a different answer, but Gareth is struggling with an injury, so it makes my chances a bit better.

“I am pleased with my form, but I just need to keep my fingers crossed.

“If I can get into the squad of 30 and impress Fabio Capello, you never know what might happen.”
