    Nugent delight at debut goal

    29 Mar 2007 - 09:16:11

Preston North End striker David Nugent hopes his debut strike in England's win over Andorra will inspire other non-Premiership players to achieve their goal of appearing for their countries.

Nugent knocked in a late third goal as Steve McClaren's side laboured to a 3-0 win over Andorra in Barcelona.

The former Bury marksman came on 11 minutes from time and stabbed the ball over the line after Jermain Defoe's shot had initially been saved.

"I've had 15 texts on my phone saying it was my goal so I'll be claiming it," Nugent told Sky Sports.

"He would have done the same thing he said, and everyone is made up for me.

"One cap, one goal, you can't go wrong. It's just unbelievable, scoring on your debut.

"Playing in the Championship as well, there is no better feeling, and it gives hope to all the other Championship players.

"The chance is there so if you keep on playing and scoring you might get that chance as well."
