    No new Owen woe

    30 Apr 2006 - 13:40:20

England striker Michael Owen has been boosted by an x-ray on his foot injury revealing no new damage, after he made his return for Newcastle United against Birmingham City.

Owen played for the last 29 minutes at St Andrew's but looked far from comfortable at the final whistle of the goalless draw.

He told The News of the World: "My foot does not feel right.

"I felt something go after ten minutes, but it's not the kind of pain I experienced when I needed a second operation.

"I will have to go and see the surgeon. Until then I don't know how serious it is. It doesn't feel perfect. Is it pain? I don't know how to explain it. There is a numbness there.

"It wasn't a crack or the pain I felt when I first did it on New Year's Eve, but it is obviously not ideal."

However, after Owen saw a specialist on Sunday, a spokesman for the Magpies confirmed: "Michael saw the specialist and had an x-ray and undertook various tests.

"The results were positive - there is no damage and the specialist said that it was quite normal for a certain level of pain to be experienced in the first couple of games back after an injury of this type."
