No injury problems for Mac
06 Oct 2006 - 11:51:20
England head coach Steve McClaren has confirmed that he has no injury worries for Saturday's Euro 2008 qualifier against FYR Macedonia.
Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas missed training on Wednesday because of a knee problem, but the 23-year-old former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United star has been passed fit to play.
McClaren confirmed: "We have 24 fit players to choose from."
The former Middlesbrough boss is considering changing his system, which could mean a place for the recalled Scott Parker as Owen Hargreaves is sidelined with a broken leg.
He added: "I want to be flexible and play different formations. I believe we've got the personnel to change formations and tactics."
McClaren has also spoken of his anger concerning a newspaper story suggesting the England players were unhappy with the prospect of playing in a 3-5-2 system rather than the tried and trusted 4-4-2.
He said: "It really disappoints me when I see newspaper articles saying the players are picking the team. The players did not have a meeting. I pick the team. What has been written is not fact and it disrupts our build-up the game."
On Wayne Rooney's return to the squad following suspension, McClaren said: "He just wants to play football. He's had injuries and suspensions and it's true that he's not been back to his best so far this season.
"But he's such a bubbly personality and he'll burst back on to the scene soon."
