Andy Carroll, the England U21 forward, has been backed to make an impact on the Premier League this season after a tough return to the top flight this week. Carroll, 21, lead the line for Newcastle as they were beaten 3-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford. More experienced strikers than Carroll will struggle against the Red Devils, and the Magpies manager Chris Hughton expects big things from the latest player to wear the famous black and white No.9 shirt. "It was a wonderful experience for the young man, he is nowhere near the finished article but he is prepared to work hard and wants to learn," said Hughton. "This match was a big step for him.
