Martyn Margetson is relishing the opportunity to work with the England team after joining Sam Allardyce's backroom staff as goalkeeping coach.

Margetson worked under Allardyce at West Ham, the 44-year-old serving the Hammers alongside his duties with Wales which commenced in 2011.

He left West Ham in 2014 to coach at Cardiff - one of his former clubs. Margetson, who made made one international appearance for Wales, against Canada in 2004, started his playing career with Manchester City, going on to play for Bristol Rovers, Bolton, Luton Southend, Huddersfield and finally Cardiff.

"This is a great opportunity and I am excited to be working alongside Sam again. I know what he can bring to a squad and also to the coaching staff," Margetson said on the official FA website, www.thefa.com.

"England have an outstanding crop of goalkeepers playing at the highest level and I am relishing the chance to work closely with them.

"I would also like to thank Tan Sri Vincent Tan, Paul Trollope and Cardiff City for all of their support."

New boss Allardyce was recently foiled in a move for Bayern Munich assistant Paul Clement, but has already appointed Sammy Lee to his staff and has been linked with recruiting Leicester's title-winning coach Craig Shakespeare.

Allardyce is glad to be able to work with Margetson once again.

"Martyn is one of the best goalkeeping coaches around and I am delighted we have been able to get him," the England manager said.

"He understands all aspects of a goalkeepers' role - not just in terms of shot-stopping or how to command an area but also in terms of strength of character for what is a crucial position on the pitch.

"I would like to thank Cardiff for their support with making this appointment."

England's new-look coaching staff will take charge of their first game when England head to Slovakia for a World Cup qualifier in September.

Meanwhile, further changes were announced by the FAW later on Tuesday as another member of Chris Coleman's Euro 2016 coaching staff, Trollope, stood down.

Trollope was appointed Cardiff head coach in the summer and the FAW said the former international midfielder was leaving to concentrate on club duties.

The 44-year-old won nine caps for Wales during his playing career, joining Coleman's staff in the summer of 2015.
