Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is one of six players who have withdrawn from the England squad for Wednesday's friendly international against Holland in Amsterdam.
The 25-year-old former Liverpool shot-stopper has been given leave of absence because his wife is about to give birth.
Charlton Athletic forward Darren Bent, Manchester United captain Gary Neville, Newcastle United midfielder Scott Parker, Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing and Spurs captain Ledley King will also miss the match.
Bent has a hamstring problem, Neville a calf injury, Parker and Downing are struggling with groin injuries, while King picked up a knee injury in his side's 3-1 defeat at Reading on Sunday.
Neville's withdrawal has increased the chances of Manchester City defender Micah Richards winning a first cap and England boss Steve McClaren would have no hesitation is using the teenager.
He told the Football Association's official website: "I've watched him play a number of times and he's a strong, quick and athletic player who has really impressed at Man City this season.
"This match provides us with a great opportunity to have a look at him over the next few days, and he fully deserves his chance."
