Liverpool have had a British record bid for Newcastle striker Andy Carroll accepted by the north-east club. The figure is believed to be in the region of £35million after an earlier bid of £30million was turned down. The news, confirmed by both clubs, seems to pave the way for Reds striker Fernando Torres to make his move to Chelsea for a reported £50million - which would eclipse the record set by Caroll's purchase. Carroll was believed to be on his way to the north west to discuss personal terms with the Reds and undergo a medical.
