Everton defender Joleon Lescott believes he has the experience to stand in for Ashley Cole if the
Chelsea star fails to recover in time to feature in England's crunch Euro 2008 qualifier against Russia on Wednesday.
Lescott came on as a second-half substitute against Estonia to make his international debut, and moved to left-back when Cole had to leave the pitch with an ankle injury.
Cole will have a scan to determine the extent of the problem, but it seems unlikely he will be fit enough to play against Russia.
Former Wolves star Lescott told the FA's official website: "It was great. It's always been an ambition of mine to represent my country and I've done that now.
"Hopefully I can continue playing well for my club and keep being selected in squads.
"I've played at left-back for my club and Joe Cole really helped me. I also had the experience of Sol Campbell alongside me so they made it as easy as possible.
"The boss made it clear that he wanted a quick start from the boys and they got that, so that made it easier for me and the rest of the subs when we came on."
