    Lennon pulls out of squad

    27 May 2007 - 12:00:49

Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for the friendly against Brazil and Euro 2008 qualifier in Estonia because of a twisted knee.

The 20-year-old picked up the injury in the opening minutes of England B's 3-1 win against Albania at Burnley's Turf Moor on Friday.

Lennon was sent for a scan and results confirmed he will not have recovered from the injury in time for the two games.

His withdrawal from the England squad makes it even more likely that Real Madrid's David Beckham will play in both games.

England boss Steve McClaren had earlier said of his decision to recall Beckham: "It's not a panic measure, we've thought about it long and hard.

"After the Spain game, we looked at the situation and reassessed where we were because that get-together and game were such a big disappointment.

"We were looking at the possibility of changing things around, so David came into our thinking and reckoning then.

"We were monitoring his progress and he was under consideration for the Israel game but, unfortunately, he got injured."
