Lampard out until Christmas after flight fiasco

Chelsea could pursue legal action against the FA, after Frank Lampard's thigh injury was blamed on the cramped flight England players took to Qatar for their friendly against Brazil on Saturday.

Lampard pulled up during England first training session in the Middle East, and is now facing a seven-week layoff. The midfielder will be seen by Chelsea medical staff today.

Reports suggest several England players complained of cramp during the seven-hour flight, aboard a budget jet normally used for short charter flights.

An FA statement read: "We can confirm Frank Lampard picked up an injury while training and will be returning home. There will be no further call-ups."

Lampard's injury will not please Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti, who is already without Ashley Cole and Jose Bosingwa, and set to lose several of his big-name stars to the African Nations in January.
