West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady says England manager Sam Allardyce will be "disappointed in himself" over a variety of controversial comments he made to undercover reporters.

Allardyce is battling to remain at the England helm as the Football Association investigates secretly-filmed conversations he had with the Daily Telegraph's investigations team.

Allardyce was filmed offering advice on how to "get around" third party ownership rules relating to player transfers.

Brady, who worked alongside Allardyce when he was Hammers manager from 2011 to 2015, told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat: "This is a man who spent his whole life trying to get that job and got it in his 60s.

"And what a great shame if he loses that job through non-footballing reasons. And I think he'll be disappointed in himself."

Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright believes it would be a "a terrible shame" if Allardyce lost the England job for "non-footballing reasons".

"When you look at Sam and his career, he was never ever going to get the opportunity to manage a top four club," Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live's Afternoon Edition.

"He got the England job and for him to now stand on the brink of losing that job is a crying shame."
