Kane gets off the mark for England, but who else has scored on their Three Lions debut?

Harry Kane scored just 80 seconds into his England debut against Lithuania on Friday nights European Qualifier. I thought I would take a look at some others who have scored on the debut for the Three Lions.

David Nugent- The striker who is now playing for Leicester scored on his one and only England appearance. He was called into the squad in 2007 to replace Darren Bent, at the time he was playing in the Championship for Preston North End. His goal was V Andorra in the 93rd minute was a debatable one with him tapping in a Jermaine Defoe goal wards effort on the line there was debate whether it was already in but it was given to Nugent in the end.

Francis Jeffers- Another one-cap-one-goal man, Scouser Francis Jeffers scored against Australia in a friendly which England lost 3-1 at Upton Park in 2003. When he scored this goal he was quite highly rated with him being at Arsenal but sadly it did not go all to plan for Jeffers with him ending up playing for 12 different clubs in his career with the likes of Accrington Stanley and Newcastle Jets ironically of Australia being on that list. The latest we heard the now 34 year old he had been turned down by Conference side Chester after a trial.

Alan Shearer- The legendary Newcastle number 9 made his debut at Wembley back in 1992 when he was playing for Southampton. He scored against French side with superstars like Cantona, Papin and Laurent Blanc all playing for ‘Les Bleus’. England won the game 2-0 and Shearer’s goal was a typical poacher’s finish from around 6 yards out. He went on to have a highly successful international career to match his club career; he scored 30 goals in 63 games for the England.

Kieran Richardson- Maybe not the one of the names you would expect to see on this list but the left sided defender/midfielder did not just score once but scored twice on his debut. The game was a friendly against USA in Chicago in 2005 back when Richardson was a Manchester United player now he plays for Aston Villa after spells at Fulham and Sunderland. He went onto make 8 senior England caps but could not carry on his goal scoring exploits and sadly did not find the net again.

Howard Vaughton- A man probably not many have heard of and that may be because he played football back in the 19th century. His debut was one to remember unbelievably scoring 5, yes 5 goals on his debut. Okay the game may have ended 13-0 to England against Ireland in 1882 but still certainly a debut to cherish for the man who used to play ‘inside left’. After this debut though he did only find the net once more for England.

These are only some of the men to have the dream start to International football the others are Bobby Charlton, Jimmy Greaves, Tom Finney, Nat Lofthouse, Alan Shearer, Steve Bloomer, Vivian Woodward, Shaun Wright Philips, Rickie Lambert and Andros Townsend all also scored on there Three Lions debut.
