Johnson expects Carroll impact for England

Glen Johnson is tipping Liverpool team-mate Andy Carroll to explode onto the international scene.

Carroll linked up with Johnson at England's training base in Watford on Monday night ahead of Saturday's Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales at the Millennium Stadium.

"He scares the life out of opposition defences," said the full-back on a visit to the Ellesmere Port car plant of new England sponsors Vauxhall. "Everyone sees Andy as a big target man, who can hold the ball up. But there is far more to his game than that."

He added: "He is always an outlet. You can stretch the play by giving it to him and he scores goals. Defenders just do not like the way he plays.

"He has caught me by surprise with his development but in football your life can change very quickly.

"There is no doubt he can make a big impact."

Johnson also hailed recently re-instated England captain John Terry, and said: "John Terry leads by example

"He loves the shirt and wears his heart on his sleeve.

"He is a vocal presence who tries to help the new lads in the squad. He can see the whole game and organises everything.

"He is a leader and he deserves the armband."
