    Jenas drops out

    13 Nov 2006 - 12:34:55

England boss Steve McClaren has brought Manchester United midfielder Kieran Richardson into his squad for Wednesday's friendly international against Holland after Jermaine Jenas picked up a calf injury.

The Tottenham midfielder is the seventh player to pull out of the squad following the earlier withdrawals of Chris Kirkland, Darren Bent, Gary Neville, Scott Parker, Stewart Downing and Ledley King.

Richardson had originally been included in Peter Taylor's England Under-21 squad, but now has the opportunity to add to his six senior caps.

The 22-year-old has already been used three times in McClaren's brief time in charge of the England team, coming on as a substitute in the games against Greece, Andorra and Croatia.

McClaren is looking forward to the friendly encounter in Amsterdam, telling the FA's official website: "I'm excited by the players we have available this time that we didn't have previously.

"You need players who can beat players and change the game. And the addition of Joe Cole, Aaron Lennon and Andrew Johnson provides that.

"Aaron, to be perfectly honest was a huge loss to us last time because he was playing very well. Whether he starts or comes on he makes an impact and he frightens defenders.

"I've watched his last couple of games and I'm excited by his performances, not just on the left but on the right and through the middle."
