James looks to the positives
12 Feb 2009 - 08:57:45
England goalkeeper David James believes Fabio Capello's side can take a lot of positives from Wednesday's friendly defeat to Spain.
The veteran Portsmouth shot-stopper endured a difficult evening before being replaced by Robert Green at half-time as England slumped to a 2-0 defeat against the Euro 2008 champions in Seville.
James was impressed by Spain, telling the FA's official website: "They fully justified their position as the best team in Europe. Some of their passing was exceptional throughout the team so it was definitely a good test for us.
"We'd have had a certain amount of bragging rights had we won, but ultimately it was about learning from the experience.
"You saw a team with tremendous passing and they are a very, very decent outfit.
"If we're going to be contenders for the World Cup, this is a team we're going to have to play well against and beat. So, despite the defeat, which is disappointing, there were some very good positives there.
"Carlton Cole came on and had a great chance to score but for some last-ditch defending. So there was some good stuff to take out of it."
