James would be happy to be backup

David James, the Portsmouth goalkeeper, would happily come away from his third World Cup finals having still not played in the biggest tournament in football - if he had a winners medal hanging around his neck. James went to Japan and South Korea in 2002 but was backup to David Seaman, while Paul Robinson was first-choice keeper in Germany four years ago. James will be battling it out with West Ham's Robert Green and Manchester City's Joe Hart to be No.1 in South Africa. "This is the beauty of the Capello regime. You're not given the feeling you've failed by not playing. When the side is successful without you in it then it justifies the selection process," he told Sky Sports News. "So if the team go, they're successful and they win it and I don't play, I say 'Fine, happy days'."
