Jagielka replaces Terry for Ukraine clash

England manager Roy Hodgson picked Phil Jagielka ahead of Gary Cahill to replace the injured John Terry in England's defence for Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley.

With Chelsea centre-back Terry sidelined after suffering an ankle injury in Friday's 5-0 win over Moldova, Hodgson opted to pair Everton defender Jagielka with his former Goodison Park team-mate Joleon Lescott at the heart of England's defence.

Jagielka, a goal-scorer in last month's friendly win against Italy, has partnered Manchester City star Lescott three times on international duty and England have won on each occasion.

Hodgson's decision to go with Jagielka was the only change from the England side that routed Moldova in their opening qualifier.
