Is Roy Hodgson the right man for England?

The decision to appoint Roy Hodgson has been met by considerable indifference from players and fans alike.

With Harry Redknapp tipped as hot favourite, many felt he was a certainty to take the job following Fabio Capello's departure in February.

The FA have now seemingly made their minds up on appointing West Brom boss Roy Hodgson as England's new manager.

Many players and pundits were keen on Redknapp taking the job and the news relating to Hodgson has been met by silence from players.

The likes of Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Jermain Defoe, Michael Owen and Gary Lineker had all publicly backed Redknapp on social media site Twitter, while so far the decision to go with Hodgson has been met by silence.

Is this fair on an experienced and successful manager like Hodgson?

A man well respected and liked as one of 'the good guys' within the game, who also has an impressive CV that boasts Premier League, European and International experience.

Having spent many years managing in Scandinavia, the 64-year-old has also managed Italian giants Inter Milan as well as Udinese.

His International experience has come with Switzerland, Finland and more recently, the United Arab Emirates.

At Fulham he rescued a side doomed to relegation and successfully transformed them into Europa League finalists in 2010.

A brief and uninspiring spell at Liverpool is remembered as a low point in his career, but he has since managed West Brom to a third successive season in the Premier League, for the first time in almost thirty years.

Although a number of fans would like an explanation as to why Redknapp was not offered the job, his legal troubles and rumoured frosty relationship with Trevor Brooking have perhaps not helped his case.

Walking into a job without a lot of public backing is perhaps not ideal for Hodgson, with many media outlets choosing to back Redknapp.

Having turned Tottenham into a Champions League outfit, Redknapp was deemed to have done enough to secure the top job in England, although this was not the case.

Less than two months are left until the start of the European Championships, England will go into the tournament with relatively low expectations.

Roy will need to quickly put together a mix of good young players and solid senior players and do England credit at the Euros, something that has been severely lacking at recent international tournaments.
