Injured Young misses out

Aston Villa full-back Luke Young has been forced to withdraw from the England squad for Wednesday's friendly international against Spain because of a toe injury. The former Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough star has not played for England since the friendly victory against Argentina in November 2005. He had been one of six Villa players included in the squad, Emile Heskey, Ashley Young, Gabby Agbonlahor, Gareth Barry and James Milner being the others. Meanwhile, former Leeds United and Newcastle United star Milner hopes to earn his first England cap in the game. He said: "Hopefully I'll get on the pitch at some point, but it's great to be here and I have to prove that I should be here. "Spain are a very strong team with lots of quality. But it's more about us after getting a good result last time out against Germany and we can go in confident of getting a result. "The set-up here is very helpful as it's run in a similar way to the Under-21s. It's made the step up easier, especially with some familiar faces from Villa in the squad. "If you play well for your club and the under-21s you'll get your chance on merit. Now it's up to me to perform and stay here."
