Grieving Defoe returns to England camp

England striker Jermain Defoe returned to the England Euro 2012 squad on Saturday from London where he had flown on Thursday following his 47-year-old father's death from throat cancer.

The 29-year-old Spurs star, who only three years ago lost his 26-year-old half-brother in a stabbing incident and his grandmother then died at the funeral, will more than likely take part in team training later on Saturday.

Defoe is regarded as England's reserve striker and unlikely to start their opening Group D match against old foes France on Monday in Donetsk, Ukraine, but with Wayne Rooney suspended for the first two games he has a good chance of seeing some action.
