England midfielder Steven Gerrard has missed training for a second successive day due to a back problem.
The 26-year-old Liverpool ace is not considered to be a doubt for Saturday's World Cup opener against Paraguay, but the England camp have adopted a safety first approach.
An FA spokesman confirmed: "Steven not training is purely precautionary and we expect him to be ready for Saturday."
All other members of the squad trained as usual on Wednesday, apart from Wayne Rooney, who faces a make or break scan on his foot injury in Manchester today.
Coach Sven-Goran Eriksson is expecting a positive result from Rooney's scan, saying: "I'm confident he will take part in the World Cup and he is 300 per cent confident that he will play.
"I have been saying for one month that I'm sure he will take part in the World Cup."
