Steven Gerrard has denied texting Harry Redknapp to give him his backing for the England job.
Redknapp claimed in his recently released autobiography that Gerrard was one of a number of senior England players who contacted him last year, backing him for the position following Fabio Capello's resignation.
Gerrard denied he ever did such a thing, although he did concede that he spoke to Redknapp's son Jamie about the matter.
"I didn't text Harry Redknapp's personal phone. I have never had his (mobile) phone number," Gerrard told a press conference prior to England's crunch qualifier against Montenegro.
"I am a big fan of Harry. I had a conversation with Jamie, around the time when Harry was on everyone's lips.
"He was the favourite, it (looked like) it was only going to be a matter of days before he was going to be the new manager.
"I said to Jamie on the phone - send my best to your dad and if he gets the job we will all back him and we will support him."
Gerrard said he was happy with the Football Association's decision to turn to Roy Hodgson instead.
"Very soon after (that conversation) the FA decided that Roy Hodgson would be the manager and from the first conversation I had with Roy I tried to back him and give him my best," Gerrard added.
"I was absolutely delighted that he got the job because I have worked with him before at Liverpool.
