Gerrard injury scare for England

28 May 2010 07:01
Steven Gerrard limped out of England training yesterday, just 30 seconds into a closed practice match at the team's base in Austria.

The Liverpool midfielder received 20 minutes of treatment on his right calf and sat out of the rest of the session, prompting fears for his fitness ahead of England's World Cup opener on June 12th.

Gerrard is expected to return to training today, where his fitness will be closely monitored by Fabio Capello and the England staff.

Meanwhile, Gareth Barry looks certain to win his fitness battle ahead of the Finals, after scans revealed the Manchester City midfielder's ankle ligament injury was recovering at a faster rate than expected.
