In case you needed any real clarification as to the winners of this summer’s kick about in Brazil, then it’s clearer than ever – England are going to win the World Cup.
This is as the year of 1966 saw occurrences that are beginning to repeat themselves in the present year:
Real Madrid won the European Cup.
Atlético Madrid won La Liga.
The FA Cup Final was won by a team that was 2-0 down.
Austria won Eurovision, which is evidently relevant.
And, lastly, England won the World Cup.
The first four occurrences have repeated themselves already. Time will only tell whether England can complete what would be a tremendous turn of fate. Yet for the meantime, let’s allow ourselves to believe that it’s coming home, it’s coming home, it’s coming, football’s coming home...
