Fabio cools Redknapp rift talk
28 Mar 2009 - 09:40:10
England boss Fabio Capello has attemped to play down reports of a rift with Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.
Earlier in the week Redknapp had criticised England's treatment of Ledley King. The Spurs boss was unhappy when the central defender was included in the squad for the games against Slovakia and Ukraine only to then be released due to his chronic knee condition.
Redknapp could not understand why King had been selected in the first place by Capello, who insisted: "There is no problem with Redknapp. It is his right to talk.
"Overall there is good communication with the other managers. I met three coaches when I saw Manchester United's game with Inter Milan and spoke about players.
"But I think I should be able to check all my players. I did it with Steven Gerrard last time and I wanted to do it with Ledley King this time.
"He was not injured when he played for Tottenham last week and it was important for me to speak with him and hear what my own medical people say.
"Harry Redknapp has spoken about the England team but Alan Hutton is in the Scotland squad after being out for a number of months but that has not been mentioned. I do not understand why this is the case."
