Former goalkeeper Peter Shilton, England's most capped footballer, will appear in court later this month after being arrested for drink-driving, police said Monday.

Shilton, 63, who made 125 England appearances between 1970 and 1990, was arrested outside a friend's home in Colchester, eastern England, on February 24.

He was found to be driving with excess alcohol in his system, police said.

"A 63-year-old man will appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court on March 19," said a spokesman for the local Essex Police force.

Shilton made 1,005 league appearances for clubs including Leicester, Stoke, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Derby.

He won two European Cups, one league title, one European Super Cup and the League Cup with Forest.

Shilton was England's goalkeeper when they finished fourth at the 1990 World Cup, his last appearance in the national jersey.
