Who knows how far an in form England can go at this years Brazilian World Cup says former England and Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman.

England's chances at this years tournament have largely been written off with former players such a Gary Lineker saying the squad just simply isn't good enough, with a lack of technical ability that would see them struggle against the best teams in the world.

But Seaman, former England shot stopper with 75 caps to his name believes good form leading up to the tournament would give the Three Lions as good a chance as anyone.

“The main thing that you've got to do when you arrive at the tournament is to be on form. You know it's no use being on form right before it, try and be on form when you start qualifying then your confidence will grow and then who knows where you're going to go?” Seaman, who is supporting Football Shirt Friday due to take place on Friday 11th April, told Football.co.uk.

England teams of recent times have never been able to emulate the success of the 1966 squad led by Bobby Moore and many former players who have been successful with their clubs, including Seaman, have regrets about not winning a major tournament on the international stage.

“You know in the past obviously I've been involved and we've not really justified how good we are, we've had great teams, we've had great squads but then all of a sudden something has happened, mainly penalty shoot-outs. It just hasn't been going our way, so we just hope that we get on the right sort of form at the right time.

“Not winning anything with England, It's a negative, but only a small negative you know, I've had a great career with Arsenal, winning trophies . I've also got Euro 96 to look back at which was a great time for me.”

David Seaman was launching Football Shirt Friday in aid of the Bobby Moore Fund, supported by Ladbrokes. Wear your football shirt to work on Friday 11th April, and donate £2 to make Bobby proud. For more information, visit footballshirtfriday.org.
