Euro 2012 England squad - the winners and losers

16 May 2012 13:31
Following the announcement of Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2012, who are the winners and losers.

Winners

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

The young Arsenal winger has made a big impression during his first season at the club. Despite being uncapped, he was widely tipped to make the squad and his inclusion should please many fans.

John Ruddy

The Norwich keeper has been in terrific form this season for the Canaries and deserves a place in the squad. Another player who is yet to be capped at International level.

Stewart Downing

No goals and no assists this season for a player who is considered a 'flop' since signing for Liverpool in the summer. Downing will certainly consider himself a winner after another call up despite many people expecting Adam Johnson.

Andy Carroll

Another player who has had his ability questioned since arriving at Anfield. He has hit form in recent months and has seemingly swayed Hodgson's decision.

Losers

Micah Richards

Having been an important member of Manchester City's title winning side, Richards must be wondering what he has to do to get picked.

Kyle Walker

It is unknown yet if the injury Walker sustained on the final day of the season is why he hasn't been picked. If not then he will also consider himself unlucky to be missing out behind Glen Johnson.

Rio Ferdinand

Hodgson has seemingly decided to go with Terry ahead of Rio. It was almost certainly only going to be one out of the two, but this decision may shock some, as Ferdinand has been in good form for Manchester United this year.

Adam Johnson

Many people are already asking how Downing has been selected ahead of Johnson. Both former Middlesbrough lads have struggled this season but Johnson has still managed 6 league goals this campaign. He is though on standby should any of the wingers pick up a knock.

Michael Carrick

Another player who has had a fine season. Carrick may have just had his best season since moving to Manchester United, but he still has failed to even make the stand-by squad.

Peter Crouch

Crouch has experience and international goalscoring pedigree on his side. Despite this it was not enough for him to be selected.

Bobby Zamora

With Roy's Fulham connection it was thought that Zamora may make the squad. This was not the case and the QPR forward will not be going.
