England's Lucy Bronze named player of the year at FA Women's Football Awards

England defender and World Cup goalscoring star Lucy Bronze was named player of the year at the FA Women's Football Awards.

Bronze, who has also been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, scored twice for Mark Sampson's Lionesses at the World Cup in Canada, netting the second-round winner against Norway and vital second goal against Canada in the quarter-finals.

The 24-year-old Manchester City player received her FA award on Friday night at Wembley Stadium.

Sunderland striker Beth Mead was handed the FA young player of the year award after a sparkling season with her club. The 20-year-old earned a first England call-up and finished as top scorer with 12 goals in 14 FA Women's Super League matches.
