England call-up excites Cahill
08 Oct 2009 - 09:36:30
Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill believes he is playing the best football of his career and deserves to make his England debut this weekend.
Fabio Capello has called the 23-year-old former Aston Villa star into his squad for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine after Joleon Lescott was forced to pull out because of injury.
"If I'm needed to play then I'm confident I can go out there and play for England and do a job," revealed Cahill.
"It's great to be around such great players as John Terry and Rio Ferdinand, especially with me being a few years younger than them.
"I've a lot to learn and it's great to learn off them because they've been there and done it. That can only help me with my game.
"I can remember watching the last finals while I was on holiday in Spain, and even watching it in a different country and seeing all the fans brings back to you how big the World Cup stage is.
"When you play football you want to get to the highest level you can achieve and it's every boy's dream to play in the World Cup finals.
"The following for England all over the world is ridiculously passionate. England fans are everywhere and all you see are England shirts."
