England will host new-look France

The Football Association have confirmed England will host France in a friendly at Wembley on Wednesday November 17. The match will provide coach Fabio Capello with an opportunity to experiment with fringe players following their European Championship qualifying games against Bulgaria, Switzerland and Montenegro. Capello indicated during the week that he would include David Beckham in his squad for the game, giving the former captain a chance to say farewell to supporters after deciding he does not feature in his plans for competitive games. France are in a rebuilding phase of their own, with Laurent Blanc replacing Raymond Domenech as coach following their abysmal World Cup campaign. Les Bleus were eliminated in the group stage, with forward Nicolas Anelka sent home after an argument with Domenech during a game and the entire team refusing to train as a result. Blanc started his era as coach by naming a squad that included no players from that World Cup squad for his first game, last week's 2-1 friendly loss to Norway in Oslo. England and France have met 27 times, with England winning 16 times and defeated seven.
